I met him at X Factor last year, and I interviewed him a few times. And we had to go to this GQ dinner and I sort of befriended him. It was me and James Corden and One Direction at this table and we were kind of like father figures, giving them advice like ‘Be nice to everyone and take pictures with everyone and don’t be horrible. Don’t have sex with strippers. Or do.’ So I became friends with him and we were just BBM-ing one day and he was saying ‘What’re you up to?’ and I said ‘Oh, I’m in Manchester’ and he said ‘Oh, me too’. So he said ‘Let’s meet up’. So we met up and went shopping. And he was trying on a jumper and this woman said to me ‘Are you his father? You must be really proud!’ And I was like: ‘I’m 27! I’m 9 years older than him. Or 10. But he’s nearly 18.’ And I got really paranoid and I could hear him hysterically laughing in the changing room. He begged me not to tell this, but… When we left the store, someone was like ‘It’s him! It’s him! From the X Factor!’ and he was like ‘Oh god, being a popstar…’ and the other person was like ‘It’s him! Frankie Cocozza!’ and I was like ‘That’s worse. I’d rather be someone’s dad than Frankie Cocozza.’ He did not take it well. But he did have a lovely new jumper and a father figure.
